Death of a Monkey's Uncle, Pen and Marker on paper, 11" x 14" |
This piece, entitled “Death of a Monkey’s Uncle” is based on
the origins of the phrase “A Monkey’s Uncle”. The phrase was popularized in the mid 1920s, but it was
coined in the late 1800s, when an editor at a publishing house, upon reading
Darwin’s first draft of “The
Descent of Man” (in which Darwin proposed the theory that man is related to
monkeys), shook with laughter and declared “Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle!”.
This is really fantastic! Great theme and thought provoking. Love the flowered border
